By Order No. 351n dated 7 August 2026, the Ministry of Labour of the Russian Federation approved the professional standard “Specialist in Environmental Audit (Environmental Auditor)”. The standard will enter into force on 1 March 2027.
Our company was directly involved in developing the standard. For us, this was an opportunity to bring practical experience from real environmental audits and due diligence assignments into the discussion of what an environmental auditor should know, what skills are expected at different professional levels, and how the role should work in practice. Drawing on our experience in environmental auditing, environmental and social assessment, due diligence and environmental risk management, we contributed a practitioner’s perspective to the development of the new professional requirements.
The professional standard establishes requirements for the qualifications, education and practical experience of specialists and defines the principal job functions for different qualification levels – from Environmental Audit Assistant to Lead Environmental Auditor and Environmental Audit Project Manager.
The adoption of the standard establishes a common professional framework for the training and assessment of specialists in environmental auditing and supports the further development of this professional field in Russia.
